In celebration of the HortFest 2025 at HortPark, Singapore, we are pleased to present 2 workshops with Kelly Bassett.
This workshop will provide an opportunity for attendees to explore the dynamic "pen and wash" technique, where the crisp lines of waterproof pigment ink beautifully combine with the expressive flow of watercolour.
Participants will receive hands-on guidance, learning how to draw charming flowers using waterproof pens. They will then discover how to add vibrant colour with watercolour pencils, using water to achieve lovely wash effects that mimic traditional watercolours. A design template will be provided for guidance, and we will encourage imaginative, fanciful creations, allowing each participant to express their unique artistic vision.
The workshop is designed to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience for all skill levels, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and inspired.
Participants are guaranteed ample individual support and valuable feedback throughout this fun and engaging introductory experience.
All necessary materials will be supplied. Participants will take home a Staedtler Luna Watercolour Pencils, Brush and Pigment Liner set, enabling them to continue their artistic journey.

After all that time, she still remains enchanted by tropical flora, finding tremendous joy in waking up to palm trees every morning. She is especially captivated by dried seed pods and other overlooked treasures that others might simply pass by. Kelly’s favorite medium is graphite and she also works in watercolour and colour pencil.
She was awarded the ‘Best Graphite - Exhibiting Excellence Award’ at the Society of Botanical Artists (UK) Plantae 2024 exhibition for her depiction of a Dipterocarpus zeylanicus seed. She has also exhibited in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Australia.
You can see her work currently at the Botanical Art Gallery, Singapore Botanic Gardens' Botanical Art Worldwide 2025 (Singapore) – Crop Diversity exhibition (running through August 2025). Her watercolour work of Syzygium aqueum and her pen and ink illustration of the same plant both won ‘Certificates of Artistic Merit‘.
